Red Gate join the SSIS custom component club

by Darren Green 11 Jul 2011 08:11
I recently noticed that Red Gate have launched themselves into the SSIS component market by releasing a new Data Cleanser component, albeit in beta for now. It seems to be quite a simple component, bringing together several features that you can find elsewhere, but with a suitable level  polish that you’d expect from them. String operations include find and replace with regular expressions, case formatting and trim, all of which are available today in one form or another, but will the RedGate factor appeal to people? Benefits include ease of use, all operations in one place, versus ... [More]

My Favourite Two Buttons in Denali CTP1 SSIS

by Allan Mitchell 13 Nov 2010 23:03
In SSIS for SQL Server 2005 and SQL Server 2008 when you delete something from the design surface it is gone.  The only real way of getting the deleted item(s) back is to revert to a previous version of the package or to redo the deleted items manually.  Neither of these options is particularly great.  I have made this mistake before and cursed not having CTL+Z and CTL+Y.  Denali changes this.  We can now undo and redo.  Very very welcome.  Well done, finally, the SSIS team.

Hosting woes

by Darren Green 21 Apr 2010 18:39
Unfortunately quite a few people have noticed our recent hosting problems, but if you are reading this they should all be over, so please accept our apologies. Our former web host decided migrate to a new platform, it had all sorts or great features, but on reflection hosting wasn’t one of them. We knew it was coming, and had even been proactive and requested several dates on their migration control panel so I could be around to check it afterwards. The dates came and went without anything happening, so we sat back and carried on on for a couple of months thinking they’d get back to us when t... [More]

Attunity Oracle CDC Solution for SSIS - Beta

by Allan Mitchell 18 Feb 2009 12:23
We in no way work for Attunity but we were asked to test drive a beta version of their Oracle CDC solution for SSIS.  Everybody should know that moving more data than you need to takes too much time and uses resources that may better be employed doing something else.  Change data Capture is a technology that is designed to help you identify only the data that has had something done to it and you can therefore move only what is needed.  Microsoft have implemented this exact functionality into SQL server 2008 and I really like it there.  Attunity though are doing it on Oracle... by Darren Green 23 Oct 2008 22:00
If you're reading this and have visited us before, then you will probably have noticed we have released a new site. We have migrated all the content, and old links will continue to work for now. We have also updated all of our tasks and components for SQL Server 2008. See the Component Downloads category for a full list.  I hope it all looks good and works fine, but if you have any issues or problems them please let us know.
